So this trimester I’m studying on campus! I initially wanted to study all my units on campus, but after enrolling I discovered this wasn’t going to be as easy as I had first thought. Juggling the set lecture days around work and the kids was near-on impossible, so my first two units ended up on the cloud. I really surprised myself and found the cloud not only great logistically, but also found a community online too.
So, this trimester I am doing the intensive ‘Making Social Media’ unit. I was really nervous, as had got used to my safe online life, and was dreaming about it and over-thinking things! This was a unit I really wanted to do as it has such an impact on my work-life as well as my future career aspirations so I took the plunge!
The morning was hectic to say the least. I had to drop my eldest daughter at Kinder, then drive half an hour to drop my other two at my sister-in-laws. Then drive another half an hour to get to campus, all with a very tight time limit! I really didn’t want to be late on my first day! Luckily my tutor had given me a heads up on where to park, and to an app to pay for the parking – that was a lifesaver!
And you know what? I LOVED it! It was so engaging, and being there inspired me to get writing on here and my personal blog! interacting face to face with my peers was great, and seeing things in real-time was what I needed!
I am not taking anything away from learning online, I will still be doing this for the majority of my study I think, as that just suits my family better. On the other hand I am going to take the opportunity to study on campus whenever I can, as it just seems to give me another level of learning.
So those of you studying online, if you are near a campus – give it a go! Get out of your comfort zone and try it! Like me, you may just love it!
